Photos: Protesters Outside Thomson’s First State of City Address

A group of protesters who disagree with Bloomington Mayor Kerry Thomson stood outside the Buskirk Chumley Tuesday. They protested Thomson’s plan to veto a Gaza Ceasefire resolution passed 9-0 by the City Council last week.

Inside the theatre, police guarded the doors and the mayor. The mayor discussed issues in the city and revealed that a third homeless camp will be emptied next month, but didn’t give a location, or a plan on where the residents will go. However, the mayor announced that former Mayor Mark Kruzan had been hired to help the city with transparency.

Thompson spoke at length about housing in the city and said a housing plan will be drafted in the future.

The mayor also announced that members of the Bloomington Police Department will now be able to take their vehicles home and said the new rule was already benefitting residents when police on the way to work responded to a shooting. Thomson didn’t give any specifics on the shooting.
