BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — April 12, 2024

Police in Bloomington are requesting the public’s assistance in locating a missing elderly man who was last seen early this morning.

The City of Bloomington Police Department’s Crime Analysis Unit reported that Arthur Heckman, 79, was last seen at approximately 12:30 a.m. today. According to officials, Heckman was observed in the 800 block of West 3rd Street in Bloomington.

Described as a white male standing approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing around 170 pounds, Heckman has gray hair, brown eyes, and a full beard. At the time of his disappearance, he was reportedly wearing a brown tweed flat cap, navy blue long underwear, a gray zip sweatshirt, and slippers.

Authorities have expressed concern for Heckman’s welfare, as he suffers from dementia and may be confused. While the direction of his travel is unknown, it is believed that he may have ventured either east or northwest of his residence on foot.

In a statement released by the Bloomington Police Department, officials urged anyone who encounters Heckman to immediately contact emergency services by dialing 911. Additionally, they advised that Heckman may be moving slowly and could be wearing a hat similar to the one pictured below.
