Bloomington Police Investigate CSS Vehicle Incident During Protest Event

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — May 8, 2024

The Bloomington Police Department is actively investigating an incident involving protestors and a Community Service Specialist (CSS) vehicle that occurred during the evening hours of May 7th, 2024, according to a press release from the Bloomington Police Department.

The event, which allegedly took place at the intersection of N Walnut Street and 6th Street, was brought to the attention of authorities by members of the local media, according to Captain Ryan Pedigo of the Bloomington Police Department.

Upon receiving reports of the incident, investigators promptly initiated efforts to secure surveillance camera footage from the vicinity that may shed light on the circumstances surrounding the event.

Additionally, investigators have reached out to individuals who claim to have been involved in the protest and said they were struck by the CSS vehicle, according to the BPD. These individuals have provided cellphone footage of the incident to aid in the ongoing investigation.

The Bloomington Police Department emphasized that the investigation remains active as law enforcement officials work to gather additional video evidence and conduct witness interviews. The findings of the investigation will be subject to review by the City of Bloomington Legal Department and the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office, as directed by Mayor Kerry Thomson.
