TELL MEMBERS OF CONGRESS: SAY NO TO ANOTHER BIG BANK CASH GRAB

Did you know that every time you buy something with a debit card in stores or online, the merchant must pay a hidden “swipe fee” to banks – and that those same banks regularly increase these fees? Through HR 8337, big banks will be able to increase debit card swipe fees again – hurting consumers and businesses at a time of already-high prices due to inflation.

In fact, in 2023, U.S. merchants paid $172 billion in credit and debit card swipe fees — an 8% increase from the year before and an over 200% increase from 10 years earlier. This hurts consumers and crushes the bottom line for merchants.

Congress can stop yet another big bank cash grab through the increase of debit card swipe fees by saying ‘no’ to HR 8337.

A regulated debit card market could reduce big banks’ cash swipe by $3 billion annually.
