Drug Arrest Made on School Property While Picking Up Children in Jasper, Indiana; School Staff Smelled Marijuana

JASPER, Ind. — A routine school pickup turned into a drug bust at Jasper Elementary School on Monday afternoon, May 20th. School staff reported smelling marijuana from a vehicle in the pickup line, prompting them to notify Detective Sergeant Brock Werne, who was present to pick up his children.

Sergeant Werne identified the vehicle and detained the adult occupants. The driver, Sylvia Hadi, 41, of Jasper, was arrested after a search of the vehicle revealed suspected methamphetamine, marijuana, controlled substances, and drug paraphernalia.

“The vehicle was also in deplorable condition with extreme filth, beer cans, and some diapers with feces lying around,” said the Indiana State Police in a press release.

Hadi was transported to the Dubois County Jail and is being held on bond. The Indiana Department of Child Services arrived to make arrangements for the five children in the vehicle.

    • Possession of Methamphetamine – Level 6 Felony
    • Neglect of a Dependent – Level 6 Felony
    • Possession of a Controlled Substance (2 Counts) – Class A Misdemeanor
    • Possession of Marijuana – Class B Misdemeanor
    • Possession of Paraphernalia – Class C Misdemeanor

All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
