Vehicle Fire at Sunmart Gas Station Quickly Contained

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — May 24, 2024

Firefighters from the Monroe Fire Protection District responded to a vehicle fire at the Sunmart Gas Station on Victor Pike this evening in Bloomington, Indiana. Battalion 22 was first on the scene and reported a fully involved vehicle fire that had begun melting the siding of the nearby building, according to a Facebook post by the MFD.

Engine crews, including Engines 22, 21, 29, 23, and Ellettsville Fire Department Engine 81, arrived and managed to quickly extinguish the blaze. Firefighters inspected the building for any potential fire extension and found no further issues.

The vehicle occupants reported noticing smoke coming from the back seat while driving and pulled into the gas station’s parking lot upon seeing flames emerging from underneath the car. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. No injuries were reported.
