Indiana University Trustee Election Opens

Staff report

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (June 1, 2024) – The Indiana University Trustee election is now open, offering alumni the opportunity to vote for the three alumni-elected members of the IU Board of Trustees. Voting began at 12:01 a.m. ET today and will continue until 10 a.m. ET on June 30, unless June 30 falls on a weekend, in which case the election will close on the preceding Friday.

Indiana University alumni can cast their votes online or via paper ballot. Mailed ballots will be sent by June 1 to graduates who have previously voted by paper ballot in any of the past three trustee elections. Alumni who wish to request a paper ballot can contact Amy Cope, the alumni trustee election coordinator, at [email protected] or 812-855-6610.

According to Indiana University, alumni play a crucial role in guiding the university by electing three of the nine members of the Board of Trustees. The remaining six trustees, including a student trustee, are appointed by the governor of Indiana, Eric Holcomb.

Trustees serve three-year terms, with the exception of the student trustee, who serves a two-year term. Alumni-elected trustees serve on a rotating basis, with one trustee elected each year. The successful candidates will begin their terms on July 1, 2024, and serve until June 30, 2027.

The trustee election is managed by the dean of University Libraries, in compliance with state law. Alumni can review candidate statements and cast their votes online at the provided links.
