WTRAndretti, Acura Triumph in Detroit Sports Car Classic

From press release

June 1, 2024 — DETROIT, MI — Ricky Taylor and Filipe Albuquerque secured victory at the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic, marking Acura’s second IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship win of 2024.

Taylor, with a decisive move under braking for Turn 3, took the lead and, along with co-driver Albuquerque, clinched the win on the streets of Detroit. Starting fourth, Albuquerque advanced to second with a bold pass on the opening lap. The team’s sole pit stop involved only a driver change and fuel, with Taylor taking over. He overtook race leader Mathieu Jaminet with 26 minutes left and maintained the lead through two caution flag restarts, finishing 1.1 seconds ahead.

This win is the first of the year for the #10 Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti duo and the second for Acura. Teammates Louis Deletraz and Jordan Taylor, who won the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring in March, finished fourth today.

In addition to the sports car victory, Colton Herta, part of the winning #40 Acura team at Sebring, secured pole position for Sunday’s Indy car race, completing a successful day for Honda Racing Corporation USA (HRC US).
