Fire Crews Respond to Two Collisions in Bloomington Area Wednesday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — June 6, 2024

Fire crews in Bloomington were kept busy yesterday, responding to two separate vehicle collisions in the evening.

At around 7:45 p.m., Rescue 24, Engine 22, Battalion 29, and Chief 25 of the Monroe Fire Protection District were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on East State Road 46. Reports indicated that a vehicle had gone down an embankment and collided with a power pole, trapping occupants inside and causing power lines to fall onto the car. Additional assistance was requested from City of Bloomington Fire Department Truck #2 and Duke Energy.

Upon arrival, emergency responders found that all occupants had safely exited the vehicle. IU Health Lifeline Ambulance personnel evaluated those involved for any injuries.

Later, shortly after 9 p.m., Marine 24, Engine 25, Battalion 29, and Chief 23 of MFD responded to another accident on Southshore Drive, where a vehicle was submerged in Lake Lemon. The driver had exited the vehicle before firefighters arrived and was transported to the hospital by IU Health Lifeline Ambulance for further evaluation.

Marine 24 worked alongside Monroe County Dive members to inspect the submerged vehicle, confirming that no other occupants were inside. Divers also assisted the wreck crew in hooking up the vehicle for removal.

No serious injuries were reported in either incident. The cause of both accidents remains under investigation.
