Alex Palou Triumphs at Laguna Seca

MONTEREY, Calif. — June 23, 2024 — Chip Ganassi Racing’s Alex Palou emerged victorious at the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on Sunday, securing his second career NTT IndyCar win at the iconic track.

Palou held off a late charge from Colton Herta, who finished second, while Alexander Rossi claimed third. Herta made a valiant effort to overtake Palou in the final laps but was ultimately unable to surpass the skilled driver.

Palou’s triumph adds to his growing list of accomplishments and solidifies his reputation as a formidable competitor in the IndyCar series.

The race was marked by competitive driving and strategic pit stops. Palou, driving car No. 10, started from the pole position and led for 48 of the 95 laps, finishing with a total time of 2:04:09.8545 and an average speed of 102.740 mph.

Herta, driving car No. 26, started fourth and led for eight laps, finishing with a total time of 2:04:11.8325 and an average speed of 102.712 mph. Rossi, in car No. 7, started fifth and led for 10 laps, completing the race with a total time of 2:04:14.3681 and an average speed of 102.678 mph.

Rounding out the top five were Romain Grosjean in fourth place and Kyle Kirkwood in fifth. Grosjean, driving car No. 77, started eighth and maintained a steady pace throughout the race, while Kirkwood, in car No. 27, started from the second position and led for 24 laps.

Other notable performances included Scott Dixon, who finished sixth, and Will Power, who finished seventh. Despite starting from the 10th and 15th positions respectively, both drivers managed to make significant progress during the race.

The Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey showcased the high level of competition in the IndyCar series, with multiple lead changes and tight racing throughout the event. Palou’s victory at Laguna Seca cements his status as a top contender in the series, further enhancing his championship aspirations.
