Man Found Dead After Fire in Bloomington Shed on June 14, 2024

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (June 15, 2024) — A 59-year-old man was found deceased following a fire in a shed behind a home on the 700 block of South Parkway Drive on Bloomington’s west side on June 14.

The Bloomington Fire Department reported that the shed was being used as living quarters at the time of the fire, which remains under investigation.

According to the daily police log, police responded to the structure fire at 1:22 p.m. The log reads: “IR 06/14/24 – The officer responded to a structure fire where a 59-year-old male was found to be deceased.”

Monroe County Coroner Joani Stalcup confirmed the identity of the deceased as James Chupp of Bloomington. An autopsy was performed in Terre Haute on June 15, but autopsy and toxicology results are pending.

The case is listed as a death investigation.
