Indianapolis Man Arrested for I-70 Shooting in Morgan County

July 2, 2024 – An 18-year-old Indianapolis man has been arrested in connection with a shooting incident on I-70 in Morgan County, Indiana State Police announced today.

The incident occurred on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at approximately 3:50 p.m. Indiana State Troopers were notified of a shooting on I-70 westbound, west of S.R. 39. Detectives responded to the scene and discovered that the victim’s vehicle had been damaged by gunfire, though the driver was uninjured and no other occupants were in the vehicle.

Through swift investigative efforts, detectives identified the suspect’s vehicle and the suspect, Dean A. Watson. A series of search warrants provided further leads, culminating in Watson’s arrest on July 1. Surveillance units followed Watson from a residence in Indianapolis to a gas station, where he was apprehended. During the arrest, a loaded handgun was found on Watson.

Watson was taken to the Indiana State Police Post for an interview before being transported to the Morgan County Jail, where he was booked on a preliminary charge of attempted murder.

On July 2, detectives obtained a search warrant for the vehicle Watson was driving at the time of his arrest. The search revealed a large quantity of marijuana vape pen cartridges, another firearm, and ammunition.

The charges against Watson are based on probable cause. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. The Morgan County Prosecutor will review the case to determine the formal charges.
