National Alliance for Musical Theatre Announces Lineup for 36th Annual Festival of New Musicals

NEW YORK, NY – July 9, 2024

The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) has unveiled the selectees and finalists for the 36th Annual Festival of New Musicals, set to take place on October 24-25, 2024, at New World Stages in New York City. This year’s festival promises to be the largest ever, with nearly 800 industry producers and presenters expected to attend.

Betsy King Militello, Executive Director of NAMT, expressed excitement over the new selections. “As NAMT Festival musicals from past years go into further development and production around the globe, we are thrilled to introduce another eight, new, extraordinary projects to the musical theatre field this October. We look forward to supporting the relationships cultivated among writers and producers that invariably emerge from the Festival.”

The festival, known for its role in launching successful musicals such as “Come From Away,” “The Drowsy Chaperone,” and “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” will feature 45-minute concert presentations of eight new musicals. This year’s selectees are:

  1. The Brass Teapot – Book by Tim Macy & Ramaa Mosley, Music & Lyrics by Chaz Cardigan, Co-conceived by Erik Kaiko
  2. Dear Ex – Book, Music & Lyrics by Be Steadwell
  3. Helsinki – Music & Lyrics by Barrett Riggins, Book & Lyrics by Graham Techler
  4. In Clay – Music & Lyrics by Jack Miles, Book & Lyrics by Rebecca Simmonds
  5. Lewis Loves Clark – Book & Lyrics by Mike Ross, Music by Dylan MarcAurele
  6. Lighthouse – Book, Lyrics & Story by abs wilson, Music & Story by Veronica Mansour
  7. Medusa – Book, Music & Lyrics by Parisa Shahmir
  8. Proud Marys – Book & Lyrics by Jennifer Paz, Music & Lyrics by Anthony Fedorov

In addition to these selectees, twenty musicals were chosen as finalists. This year’s record-breaking submission season saw 583 entries, with a committee of 23 theatre professionals making the final selections.

The festival serves as a significant professional development opportunity, offering industry members the chance to discover new musicals and forge connections with talented writers and composers. Registration for industry members is now open at, with various pass options available, including priority admission and access to supplemental events.

The 2024 Festival Committee is co-chaired by Sharon Fallon of Sharon Fallon Productions and Matt Morrow of Center Repertory Company, supported by a diverse group of theatre professionals from across the country.
